Off Route 1 in Wells near Rite-Aid, travel down to the end of Mile Road to Wells Beach. There is both limited free parking and pay parking (both a town run pay parking lot and quite a few pay lots run by local property owners). Beach access is free. Lifeguards on duty during the day summer hours. Nice long stretch of sandy beach extending down this peninsular area which is surrounded by Wells Harbor on the west and the Atlantic Ocean on beachside. There are public rest rooms, a restaurant and take-out area, a children's playground, an arcade, small beach and souvenir shops, a parking lot level viewing area with benches and binocular viewing devices. You can also access the main Wells beach from the "jetty side" by taking a left on to Atlantic Avenue (at the end of Mile Road) and heading north to the pay parking lot. The jetty at the mouth of Wells Harbor provides a large a sandy beach area. Nice views of boats in Wells Harbor, fishing on the Wells Harbor side of the jetty, and plenty of space to lay down a blanket can be found on this end of Wells Beach. Life guards are on duty during day summer hours and public rest rooms are available near the parking lot area. There are no restaurants down this end so bring a lunch or cooler with you. We find that a lot recreational vehicles park in this larger lot.
